Being A Ghost

I was thinking not long ago about what it is to be very self conscious and focused on other people's thoughts about oneself. It is kind of a disembodied feeling, like you are floating around outside of yourself and into other people's minds. You can still express kindness and love to people, but it is from a sad place, not from a joyous place, because you are disembodied, incomplete and unfulfilled, and therefore feel lesser than everyone else.

In this sense, it is like being a ghost. I wonder if ghosts can be thought of as metaphors for living people who are not grounded within themselves and are floating mournfully about the rest, inhabiting the imagined thoughts of others rather than themselves.
